Description

VAP is a common complication that occurs in ICU patients and is a high-risk factor for patient mortality. Daily oral hygiene is a critical care component in patients receiving mechanical ventilation because pathogens that colonize the mouth and throat can serve as a reservoir for potential nosocomial infections. According to the 2022 Consensus Guidelines for VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia) prevention, the most recommended oral care practice is routine tooth brushing without the use of chlorhexidine as a primary method to reduce the risk of VAP; this includes brushing teeth, gums, and tongue at least twice daily with a soft toothbrush while also moisturizing the oral mucosa regularly. Additional oral care practices like tongue scrapping  and/or suctioning may be necessary. In this webinar, you will learn how adequate oral care can play a significant role in preventing negative consequences.

Learning Objectives
